Things to Do in Mount Desert Island

Located on Mount Desert Island off the coast of Maine, Bar Harbor was one of 19th century New England’s most popular summer resorts and remains a much-loved tourist destination today. The beautiful Acadia National Park is on Bar Harbor’s doorstep offering over 50 square miles of mountains, lakes and coastline perfect for hiking, biking and camping and plenty of boats offer fishing trips and nature-spotting tours out of the town harbor, while after a hard day exploring the rugged island community, visitors can relax at the lively bars and seafood restaurants that populate Bar Harbor’s bustling downtown.

There are many fun things to do in Mount Desert Island; however, the following activities and restaurants are some of our most favorite nearby things to do!

We have been coming to Mount Desert Island for over 30 years and love it here. We have vacationed at Hill Side Cottage. for 3 season. It is the best cottage we have stayed at. Everything is first rate. It is amazing! It has panoramic views of Somes Sound from our large deck and from the living room sofa. It is on the quiet side of the island and very accessible to Acadia’s trails and activities. It is homey and comfortable. In addition Paul, who is a lobsterman, has been very responsive to our needs as well providing freshly caught lobster at market rates. His lobster is the sweetest we’ve ever eaten. We can’t wait for next year!

I’ve been coming here with friends and family for 30 years. It’s my most special place of anywhere I’ve traveled. Don and Marilyn Chambers have passed the torch to their grandson Paul and his wife Ashlee. The same high quality of care has not faltered one bit. This place is heaven on earth. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🦩2024. Another 2 weeks at Rockpoint Always perfect. Counting the days for same place, same time next year ❤️🦩
