Q: Can we bring a boat?
A: Yes! It is encouraged. We have plenty of dock space, moorings, and a boat ramp to launch your boat. We recommend not trailering anything more than 28′ long, however there are various boat rental companies in the area. The dock & mooring is complimentary. We will give you some local advice on where to see the best sights, and avoid obstructions / ledges!
Q: What are the most fun things to do at Chambers Oceanfront Cottages?
A: Fishing, kayaking, swimming, purchase fresh Maine lobsters from our dock, hike through the quarrys etc, swim in Echo Lake just across rte. 102 from us. Quite often you can spot Eagles, Osprey, Seagulls, Seals, Porpoise, and cormorants from your cottage.
Q: What are the most popular nearby activities?
A: Whale Watching, Lobster boat trips, kayak trips, water park in Trenton, shopping in Southwest & Bar Harbor, visit Ocean Drive (Sand Beach, Thunder Hole). Close to our property you will find Echo Lake with 4 great park maintained swimming areas: 1) Echo Lake Sand Beach, 2) The bluffs (for small cliff diving), 3) Ikes Point (boat landing & swimming), 4) Echo Vista. There is also Seawall in Southwest Harbor for a scenic drive over a causeway with Ocean & Islands on one side, and pond on the other. In this general direction you will find Wonderland, and Ship’s Harbor which are great easy hike’s along the woods and shore. Travel a little further and you will find Bass Harbor Head Light House!
Q: How close are the cottages to each other?
A: The cottages are spread out over 11 acres which all have their own unique view of Somes Sound. Standing on the porch of one cottage it is near impossible to see another cottage. The foliage provides such privacy that you feel you are secluded.
Q: Do you have internet?
A: Yes, we have complimentary wireless internet available at each cottage. Internet is also provided in our ‘Internet Access’ room near the water.

A: At our cottages you will feel right at home. From the friendly service which has been provided for the past 30 years, the cleanliness, and the unforgettable view & ocean ambiance you will understand why Chambers Oceanfront Cottages stands out among vacation rentals. There are very few places in Maine which offer a nicely appointed cottage within feet from the waters edge, and a protected view across Somes Sound at Acadia National Park.
Q: Do you have TV, heating & air conditioning?
A: Yes to all three! We have just installed energy efficient Fujitsu heat pumps which provide air conditioning. In addition to your wood burning fire place, the cottages have electric heat, & heat from the quiet heat pumps. We also have 115 channels of satellite TV (Dish Net).
Q: Where can we keep our bikes & Kayaks?
A: Each cottage has ample private parking space to keep your outdoor belongings. We also have a large parking lot down by the water with a boat ramp where you are welcome to keep your kayaks. Our property is very private, and we have never had any issues with theft in over 30 years. This is one of the things we love about our area! There are also kayak rental businesses in our area which will deliver & pick-up kayaks for you.
Q: Where can we buy lobsters?
A: One unique benefit of Chambers Cottages is we have lobsters for sale at prices that can’t be beat. Don Chambers sells lobsters each night around 5pm at his dock. Please call ahead to reserve the freshest lobsters caught right in Somes Sound! 207-244-5279. Each cottage is equipped with a large lobster kettle which can cook up to 8 lobsters at a time. We recommend steaming lobsters with an inch of water in the kettle, bring to a boil, add lobsters, and cook for 15 minutes.
