We had a wonderful time at Chambers Cottages. The Seabreeze cottage was clean, provided everything including washer and dryer, and perfect . The view of the sound, the fresh lobsters from Paul, the myriad of ocean and mountain trails; all want us coming back for more.
Iβve been coming here with friends and family for 30 years. Itβs my most special place of anywhere Iβve traveled. Don and Marilyn Chambers have passed the torch to their grandson Paul and his wife Ashlee. The same high quality of care has not faltered one bit. This place is heaven on earth. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🦩
Great place to stay with wonderful views, nice location, comfortable living and fresh lobster at the dock. Highly recommended.
Thank you for a perfect week in Sounderosa Cottage overlooking Somes Sound...our cottage in the woods was cozy and comfortable with all the amenities we needed, especially the view! We especially enjoyed the ability to purchase the fresh lobster catch and creating a fantastic meal overlooking the soft sunset waters at days end, the sounds of the loons,Β eagles, trees just on the edge of turning... ..beautiful! Thank you for such a peaceful place ... a time we hope to enjoy again!
This place is all about the view and the outdoor deck! Beautiful view of Somes Sound and a chance to watch birds, otters, fish and boats go by. Situated very close to the cute town of Southwest Harbor and a short drive away from all kinds of hiking and biking on the carriage roads. You can even order fresh lobster off the docks just down the street from the place. Owner is very responsive. There is a row boat available to take out. Beds are comfortable. Itβs a cabin though, nothing fancy on the inside but a great fireplace with wood provided!
An authentic Maine experience
We stayed in Hillside Cottage the last week of June and that view is EVERYTHING. Completely fabulous- you could just stay at the house and look at the view all day. What a gift. You can even see Southwest harbor from the deck/windows. We used both heat and AC- as the weather was just that variable...so happy to have access to both. The beds were very comfortable, and it was very quiet. About 20 minutes away from Acadia, and we were visited frequently by the resident deer- including two newborns. The dock was fun to walk to, for a different view. The water was waaaay too cold to swim in, but we tried! Got our toes in. That's it. The driveway was a bit rough/ bumpy- even at 5 mph, but with a view like that- who cares?
We were immediately impressed with the location and the amenities here at Chambers Oceanfront Cottages! The location is pristine and the views stunning! The cottage is quiet, very well maintained, and had all of the amenities needed for our family to enjoy a peaceful vacation in and around Acadia and Mt. Desert Island. We will be looking forward to returning here again and again!

Everything about this place is perfect, it's beautiful, relaxing, and comfortable. They are great hosts and very accommodating. Not far from Bar Harbor, hiking, fishing, kyacking, you name it, plus lobster eating all right there !
Wonderful week at Chambers Oceanfront. The cabin was very clean. Very obvious that considerable care has been taken to insure the comfort of guests. The king bed was great. Kitchen well outfitted. We will be back!
Our friend had stayed here many times and has "sold it" to many others. It is a quintessential Mount Desert Island experience on Somes Sound with a long tradition of history and devoted returnees at a very reasonable cost. We stayed at Rock Point, one of several of the properties, this one very close to the water with a private mooring dock. The surrounding property is wooded, rocky outcrops decked with ancient Birch trees and deciduous pine trees. The living area is glass-enclosed with views from within. The bedrooms are kind of dark and tight, -- the loft area is crampy, but fine for kids. The walls are thin -- you can hear everyone moving about at night, but the beds and bath, clean with well-supplied linens and towels make for a good night's sleep and showering. W/D, all other appliances and kitchenware including popcorn maker, blender, stock pots, service for 10+ , dish towels, every utensil you would need. Amazing fireplace with provided wood, homey seating, exceptional views of the sound and wildlife. We saw seal and eagles and loons and chipmunks (and a beautiful skunk checking us out late at night through the glass). The fog in the morning is mesmerizing. The colors over the mountains change by the second with an uncapturable palette of nature and sky. Incredibly well-stocked right down to a paper-clip if needed. Books, games, puzzles, and journals of memories past; brochures for anything you want to do. Others with decades of devotion to this camp have contributed to the comfort of these cottages. Intriguing art and decor, well-seated deck, grill, TV, AC and separate heat in rooms; great kitchen with everything you need including many non-perishables. Ashlee and Paul -- the leagcy owners/ managers -- are always on hand for questions or needs, making your stay seaamless and uncomlictaed -- and have the freshest lobster right out of the water at an unbeatable price. The rest of your adventure through Acadia is up to you, but this is a great crash point after hikes and trips to Bar Harbor or the other neighboring towns. Total winner for an affordable Maine experience.
If you love waking up to nature, enjoy your morning coffee with the deer, this place is for you! My wife and I spent a week in the Soundarosa cottage, and we loved it. Close to beaches, restaurants, shops and views, this place has it all! Canβt wait to get back next year. Oh yeah, extremely clean cottages and super fantastic hosts.
This property was very clean, well kept, and as private as it was beautiful! I recommend this stay to anybody looking for a taste of the Maine coast, and of course, the lobsters! Fresh off the dock three times a week, can't find them anymore fresh. A big thank you for the owners, well be back!!
Just about to complete two weeks here in their Sounderosa cottage. Well equipped for two couples or a family. We were joined by a different couple for each of the weeks and everyone was impressed and pleased. Great views of the Sound, stars and meteors at night, and convenient to everything local. Paul is generous with his time, taking us out on his lobster boat twice to learn about/observe lobster fishing and then selling us lobster at an on-the-dock price.
Our party of two had a wonderful week in this cottage. Very clean, well maintained, has everything we need. Love that we can wake up to the gorgeous view every morning!
The Hillside property we stayed at was great for our 4-person young family, we even could have hosted another family member or two comfortably and did host another 6 people for an early dinner. All the right kitchen utensils and quality non-stick pans, make sure to not use metal on them! The fireplace during our late April stay was used quite a lot for ambience and a little direct warmth, having a nice fire going with subtle lighting above while unwinding with some games after a day hiking and exploring was the icing on the cake of this trip. The satellite TV has some good music channel selection and always a movie on for most age groups. The view from behind double slider doors is great if it's too cold outside, but out on the expansive deck was where I spent some nice mornings and late afternoon quiet time. You can really take in all the atmosphere of Somes Sound, the only fjard on the east coast of North America, and the adjacent mountain peaks of Acadia National Park. The upstairs bedroom has low head room, so best for the littler kids and you have to stay very aware of the ceiling or you'll regret it! The downstairs bedrooms were comfortably sized with soft cozy beds, good closet space for hanging jackets and sufficient dresser space. The owner Paul was very responsive to inquiries and anything we may have needed, getting lobster right at the dock was a treat for the kids and Paul provided a brief lesson and talk about lobster, the quarry area around us, history of the buildings and answered other questions they had.We packed a lot into a week, I highly recommend making an appointment with the Granite Museum where Stephen Haynes can give a great presentation about how the environment you're staying in was formed millions of years ago and the history of the granite industry that was here. Then when you return to your cottage try to imagine the roads, rocks and area you are staying in used to be a bustling quarry. Also the Acadia Mountain trail, Jordan Pond loop trail with a detour up to Bubble Rock if you're up for a scramble, walking to Bar island at low tide for a view into Bar Harbor and Cadillac Mountain for sunset at Blue Hill overlook. Of course a day in town and lobster dinner is also necessary. We did a lot more, but those were highlights for sure.
This was a wonderful place to stay. Paul and Ashlee are very attentive. The views are amazing and the accommodations super comfortable. I look forward to planning another trip here
Wonderful spot! Ashlee and Paul are very nice and helpful with any questions. The cottage was clean ( with extra attention to special cleaning for Covid ) and very well supplied. We so appreciated staying here and hoped to return. Thank you Ashlee and Paul!
Beautiful clean and cozy home for our family of 4 to explore Acadia and other parts of Mt Desert Island. Adorable Maine cabin with working fireplace and deck with a view. We spent a week here and the owners were very professional. Highly recommend!
Lovely home with beautiful views in the heart of Mt Desert Island. Has everything you could want or need for a vacation to Acadia.
Beautiful, scenic, well-maintained, clean and friendly
This past August (2020) was my family's 3rd consecutive stay at Chambers Oceanfront Cottages. The owners Paul and Ashlee are super nice, high service minded owners, and have continued to upgrade the cottages with each season. The biggest pluses are the location (incredible views of Sommes Sound and the Acadia National Park mountains across the water) and the lobster (Paul pulls his own traps and sells you the freshest lobster harvested from the waters in front of the cottages. Super local and delicious!!). Paul and Ashlee can take you to Little Cranberry Island or around the sound on a tour on their beautiful boat. We are looking forward to next year already. The sunsets and sunrises are fabulous. We even see seals and porpoises from the front porch of the cottage every year!
Loved Sunrise Cottage, clean, relaxing, and quiet. Great location and easy to get too .
Chamber's Cottages are in a beautiful location with great views. The cottages are comfortable, well equipped and maintained and are clean as a whistle! My family has been here several times and we love it.
We are in LOVE with this place! It's the first time we've come to Maine and not camped. We're so happy we found these magical cottages! So many little perks and amenities make it special, like the wood fireplace (with free, unlimited wood), outdoor grill, washer/dryer, and HUGE lobster pot! We've been eating fresh lobster off the dock, waking up to lobster boats pulling up their traps, watching sealife off the deck, playing on the private pier/dock, and exploring the rocky beach. Echo Lake (my favorite swimming place as a child) is only minutes away, and everything within Acadia National Park is just a short drive away. The owner Paul is really friendly and helpful. Our cottage is super clean and comfortable. We're thrilled we found this place and will be coming back regularly! HIGHLY recommended!
we absolutely loved every second of our stay at Seabreeze...it was a last minute getaway at the end of June and we were so lucky that the cottage happened to be available...it was so charming and perfect....waking up to the beauty of Somes Sound every morning was magical. It was the perfect retreat to return to after days of hiking and exploring. Loved relaxing on the dock and even swimming in that very cold ocean water! We can't wait to return....
We just had a wonderful vacation staying in the Topside cottage. The view is AMAZING, the cottage was clean and comfortable and had many of the amenities you would have at home. The ability to buy fresh lobster right off the dock was great and we were able to have a big lobster bake with family. Our favorite part was the fireplace which kept us cozy on cool evenings!
We spent two weeks at Rock Point for our honeymoon and it was absolutely perfect. Paul and Ashlee went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and welcome. The cottage was very clean and well maintained. I've been staying there since I was little, and it still felt exactly the same as it used to. We are so excited to go back and will definitely been staying there again!
Enjoyed a peaceful week at Chambers Oceanfront Cottages in Seabreeze cottage. Very comfortable accommodations, amazing view and lots of local wildlife. We enjoyed some beautiful local hikes and of course the freshest lobster around! Acadia is very accessible from this spot. We hope to return next year!
I've read about half of the very positive reviews (all 5 stars, and they just keep coming), and I agree completely with all of them. I would add two things to consider: water quality and value. If you're used to municipal water, no matter where you're from, you'll be pleasantly surprised by the quality of the water in the cabins; it's clean, cold fresh mountain well water that is some of the best-tasting I've ever had. Yum! As to value, you may be able to match the price for a place on MDI, but (IMO) you won't do better for your vacation dollar than Paul and Ashlee Grindle's Chambers Cottages. Everything the other reviewers have said is true, and you get a real bang for your buck. We'll be back, and next time we'll bring more people.
We are staying here again this year. There are a number of upgrades. Wifi that is perfect, 3 bars of Verizon, big wide screen satelight TV, new flooring, new microwave. Wonderful views of Somes Sound and Sargent Mtn from our cottage. Paul catches lobster for us. Quiet spot, only sounds at night are from loons. Bald eagle flys by daily. Hiking, biking, kayaking opportunities are close by.
What an incredible place! This year our stay is right on the water. We were once again, greeted by deer, and have already seen osprey, porpoises and harbor seals right from our porch. Such a clean and well maintained place in such a perfect location. Truly a hidden gem on MDI.
What a great time we had staying at Hillside Cottage a few weeks ago. Loved the homey cottage feel and central location of Chambers Cottages. Paul and Ashlee were fabulous hosts, making sure that we enjoyed our stay and quickly taking care of a few very minor issues. We will definitely be back!
We are currently staying at Topside and it has been such a great experience. Paul and Ashley are easy to work with, and responsive to any concerns or issues. The view from the back porch is lovely, and we appreciate the thoughtful touches and amenities supplied for our use. A great family option.
This place has it all, helpful notes from the owners along with killer views. I can't say enough good things. Would definitely come back.
Chambers Rockpoint cottage on Somes Sound was perfection. Gorgeous unobstructed view of the Sound, with its sparkling water and calls of the Loons could not be better. The cottage was roomy, yet cozy, with any amenity you would want. Lovely.
Georgia and I had a wonderful 2 weeks at the Hillside Cottage. The cottage exceeded our expectations and Paul was very helpful. We are from Florida and had never been to Maine so we needed recommendations, which Paul gladly provided. It is one of the most peaceful vacations we have ever had. We highly recommend this property.
Best experience staying at the Chambers. The Seabreeze beat our expectations. Having this spot of heaven with this view was spectacular. Will definitely be back
We loved our stay at Chambers Oceanfront Cottages. Paul was very helpful in making our stay relaxing. The place was super clean and well provisioned. The view of Somes Sound was spectacular! We even saw a seal swimming in the sound. The kids loved the indoor fireplace, after a day of rock climbing we would cook hot dogs and sβmores. The kitchen was well stocked we cooked our own Maine Lobster twice. We highly recommend Chambers Oceanfront Cottages.
My family and I deeply enjoyed our August 2018 week at Chambers Oceanfront Cottages. We stayed in Sounderosa. The cottage was super clean, kitchen stocked with all needed items including a lobster steaming/boiling pot. This three bedroom, two bath place had ample room for the 4 of us. Itβs decor and appliances are somewhat retro and vintage. Which has its charm. The views of Somes Sound, the birds, evening visits of resident local deer, the fireplace, all met or exceeded our expectations. And what a personable family who owns and manages. Paul even pre-stacked our fridge with 4 delicious pound and a half lobsters. Then we bought 12 more directly from his and his grandfathers catch right at the dock down the hill. We hired Paul to take us round trip to Little Cranberry island for dinner. Paul answer all questions and offers tips via text super quick. This family is generous and understands true old fashioned service! All around we had a dreamy week on Mount Desert Island and Acadia. Highly recommend!!!!!
A perfect location with stunning views and a peaceful atmosphere. The house was fully equipped with everything you could possibly need for your vacation. The hosts were easy and welcoming. We had an amazing time. Thank you!
Exceptionally friendly and welcoming owners who couldn't do enough to help (from offering to stock the fridge in anticipation of a late night arrival with a small child, to taking the time to talk to and show said small child how to catch lobsters).Beautiful and peaceful location.Perfectly appointed cottage with superb view and wonderful deck overlooking Somes Sound.Cannot recommend strongly enough.
We love Maine! Chambers Cottages is centrally located on Mount Desert Island. You can enjoy the peace and tranquility at the cabin, go downtown to Bar Harbor, ride to Acadia National Park, or visit any of the nearby towns, harbors, or islands.. Beautiful scenery and fresh seafood... Perfect location and comfortable cabins! This place is incredible and you will miss it when you leave...
Loved every minute of our stay at "Hillside". Hearing the loons calling, and watching boats, while enjoying coffee on the deck each morning. So cool to see deer( 2 adults and 3 fawns)almost every day right next to the cottage. And a wonderful feast of lobster purchased right on the dock for a fraction of the cost elsewhere. The property is super clean and well maintained. Truly a hidden gem on MDI. Will be back!!

Love, love, love this place. Clean, comfy and charming.
Wonderful location, water front with chairs on floating dock. Rock Point cottage. Comfortable cottage despite cold and rain. Great hospitality from Paul and Ashlee. We didnβt want to leave after our 2 week rental!
Highly recommend the Sounderosa property, great view on the bay from the deck, everything we need, including free firewood for our stay. Paul even had the fireplace ready to go, I just had to light it. Our name was on the door, and Paul called, and texted us when the property was ready, which was earlier than expected, we were still in Boston.
I would highly recommend staying at the Crows Nest Cottage on Somes Sound - it is keep super clean and fully stocked with everything you would need for a weeks stay. This includes sheets, towels, washer, dryer and a large pot for cooking your lobsters. On Monday - Wednesday & Friday as long as Paul (the owner of the cottage) has a good catch you can go down to the dock and purchase lobster right from him.
The view of Somes Sound from the outside deck and livingroom is so peaceful - it's a great place to have your morning coffee. We even had a deer visit daily and one day she came with her baby.
Paul and Ashlee live up the road and are close by "if" you should need anything. There is internet access too. Friewood is available for the cool nights if you want to light a fire.
Bar Harbor is a short drive and there are a lot of cute shops and restuarants. For groceries I would recommend going into Bar Harbor and going to Hanaford's as it is cheaper than the IGA store that is in Mt. Desert. On the nights you can't get lobsters from Paul - Beal's has a large select of lobster, mussels and clams.
Take a trip to Arcadia Park - if your not a hiker do the Park Loop - stop by Thunder Hole (best time to see this is 2 hours before high tide) but it is something to see at anytime. Then take the ride up Cadillac Mountain - park you car and walk around the top (there are walking paths) and take in the views.
I recently spent a week at Rockpoint with my friends and we had a great time. The house was very clean and clearly well cared for. It was stocked with just about anything we needed (firewood, linens, paper towels, soap, etc.) All you need to bring are clothes and food. The location of the cottage couldn't have been better. Nothing on the island is more than a 15-20 minute drive (including Bar Harbor and Acadia), but you feel totally secluded and have amazing views of Somes Sound.I highly recommend Chambers Oceanfront Cottages. It was a great escape from reality and I hope to be back soon.
Incredible views, well maintained property, and nice people. Couldn't have asked for more.
We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place. We come year after year; Paul and Ashlee obviously love this place too. They take such good care of the cottages, which are well-equipped. All you need to bring is the food youβll consume during your stay (along with spices, of course). All else is provided for a lovely and relaxing vacation.
This is the second year in a row we have stayed at the Chambers Oceanfront Cottages. It is a wonderful, peaceful place to stay and the cottages are well-equipped and extremely comfortable! The owner, Paul, is very accommodating and helpful, the view is beautiful, and the lobster is delicious! I wouldn't choose any other place!
What a fabulous place to spend a week! Quiet, beautiful water views, and a clean and well-equipped cottage. Very happy to discover this place on my first trip to Acadia.
I almost hesitate to reveal how wonderful these cottages are since they are heavily booked by those lucky enough to have stayed there. The Grindles are responsive and helpful. Topside was comfortable and well-equipped, and we wish we could have extended our week there to a month. Beautiful view from the wide deck across Somes Sound to the mountains fronting Cadillac, 5 minutes to Acadia Mountain trails, 10 minutes to SW Harbor, but quiet, private and peaceful woodsy setting. Can't wait to return next summer.
Just a perfect place to vacation. Close to all that Acadia has to offer but on the quiet side of the island. Views of somes sound spectacular from the cottage and the cottage was so well stocked with everything and anything you might need. Hosts were extremely responsive to any questions. And having access to 3 docks right on the sound made our stay extra special
We had a wonderful time staying at Top Side July 2017. The cottage is very clean and comfortable. Paul & Ashlee are pleasant and professional. Our kids loved going on a boat ride with Paul who gives a fun and educational tour of Somes Sound. My favorite part of Top Side is the breathtaking view from the patio! You have a slightly elevated, unobstructed view of Somes Sound while the rest of the cottage is surrounded by trees. This gives you complete privacy away from the other cottages. The patio has very comfortable furniture to sit and enjoy your peaceful sanctuary.
We rented the Sea Breeze cottage and were very pleased with this. Every thing was clean, the location as excellent (Ok, in Acadia, nothing seems very far away). Cottage owners were wonderful and friendly and even went out of their way to get us fresh lobsters on Thursday. View from the dock was wonderful. I would highly recommend this and would stay there again in a minute.
We've been looking forward to this vacation for over a year and when we arrived, the cottage was far beyond everything we expected. Clean, well stocked and the view is absolutely amazing. We will return.
Excellent views of Somes Sound; very clean and well-maintained; serene and quite location off-the-beaten-path; convenient access to all MDI has to offer; we also shopped around quite a bit in the area, and these prices were very competitive for location/size/quality of cottage.
Nice water view; very clean and well-maintained; spacious for a family of 4; all the amenities you need. Plus the bonus of being on MDI close to Acadia!
We just returned from a week at the Sea Breeze cottage, and it was a wonderful experience. The cottage was clean, comfortable, well decorated, and had everything we needed right down to linens, towels and a well equipped kitchen (including all supplies needed to cook our own lobsters). Paul and Ashley were incredibly welcoming and attentive (don't miss the chance to by some lobsters right from Paul's dock) and bent over backwards to make sure that we had a great trip. We had some special requests to help us stay with a young toddler, and they went well above and beyond to accommodate. The views of the sound are breathtaking, and the location is convenient to Bar Harbor and Southwest Harbor. Highly recommended and we will be back!
Amazing views from Topside Cottage! This is our first time in Maine. Pleasantly surprised by the rental. Cottage is spacious, clean, and well equipped. It has a home away from home feel. There are three docks on property to fish, swim, or launch from. Very quiet and serene. Nearby markets and lobster roll stands. Wildlife abounds.
What a wounderful cottage!! My wife and I spent our 25th wedding anniversary at Crow's Nest. The cottage was beautiful, well equipped and the views of Some's Sound and Sargent Mountain were exceptional. The hosts were gracious and easily accessable if needed. Fresh lobster off the boat was caught hours before and delicious! We are already planning our trip for next year and another delightful stay at Chamber's Oceanfront Cottages!
We had a wonderful week staying in Topside cottage. The cottage was clean and well stocked with anything we needed. The location was great...about 20 minutes from Bar Harbor. The view of the Sound from the deck is one of a kind! Enjoyed watching boats, osprey and the sunset from our back porch. Thank you Grindles for going out of your way to help with anything we needed! Next time we are going to make it down for a fresh lobster! You run a wonderful place and we will be back!
We have been coming here for over 10 years. You can't ask for anything else. A great house equipped with everything you need. Dishes, pots, dishwasher, washer and dryer, etc. Lobsters at the dock are excellent. Very nice and quiet. Paul and Ashlee are the nicest hosts and their son Camden is adorable. Love it here!
We take a family vacation to Mount Desert Island every year and rent a house. We have two small children so we're pretty picky about the kind of place where we stay. The Crowe's Nest was large, inviting, immaculate, and homey with one of the most beautiful ocean-front views we've seen. They have everything you need to feel comfortable-I even brought several items other properties were lacking on past trips and didn't need them here. We bought lobster down on the dock three times. It was so convenient and fun to just walk down the road to get our dinner! They were a great deal too. We also took a boat ride with Paul, who was more than accommodating and pointed out some of the little-known spots on the waterfront in Somes Sound. It was the perfect night for a cruise and a private ride was the perfect way to enjoy it. We highly recommend this property for a getaway to Acadia and the surrounding area. We'll be back!
Spectacular week at Chambers Oceanfront Cottages! Beautiful cottage, amazing views of Somes Sound, private chartered boat tour with our hosts Paul and Ashlee (including a talk on the local history), and delicious fresh live lobsters available on Paul's dock! Very special!! Kathy, NJ
Nice and small campground with comfortable facilities
We are a family of 5 from Michigan. The quiet Hillside cabin sits up from the sound with a great view from its large deck. A gentle breeze from the sound makes for a restful stay. The cabin offers more than ample room to cook, eat, sleep, and kick back. Lobstah available at the dock.
We had a great week at Rock Point Cottage! Paul & Ashlee were wonderful hosts. The views of Somes Sound from the cottage were incredible. Short drive to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. Also, they have fresh lobster for sale on the dock with the best price on the island! We will definitely be back!
My husband found this place on line 3 years ago, we've been coming ever since. We absolutely love it here!
Cottages on the water, stocked with everything you need, beautiful view!!
The owners are fantastic!
Chambers Cottages is my favorite place in the whole world. Been staying there every year since the early 90's. I've stayed in several of the cottages but mainly Rockpoint. It's like a second home. From Don and Marilyn to Paul and Ashley ..... They are the best. I've enjoyed sharing this wonderful place with many family members and friends. Everyone leaves in love with this heavenly and magical place.
Excellent accommodations and an incredible location! We had a great time and will be back.
Gorgeous views, excellent accommodations, I just returned home from my second stay and cannot wait to return
